HOT HARRY'S FRESH BURRITOS NAMES DIRECTOR OF FRANCHISE SALES - DESIGNATES UPPER UNION STREET, SCHENECTADY LOCATION AS THE "FLAG SHIP" LOCATION AND NEW YORK CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS
SCHENECTADY, NY -August 27, 2009 -- Samir Abdallah, co-founder and President of Hot Harry's Fresh Burritos, has announced the appointment of Clay Slaughter, as Director of Franchise Sales for his growing company. In a simultaneous announcement, Abdallah designated his Schenectady store at 1625 Upper Union, Schenectady as the New York headquarters for Hot Harry's Fresh Burritos, Inc. The company is corporately based and was founded in Pittsfield, MA.
Aside from the Upper Union Street, Schenectady location, the small, but growing business includes the two original Pittsfield Mass stores (one owned and operated by Abdallah) and four franchise stores. Two franchises are in Berkshire County, Massachusetts, one is in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and one is in East Greenbush, New York. "The Upper Union Street store is tremendously successful. It's our "model," the "flagship location," with the desired look, format, and commitment to taste, quality, value, cleanliness, and service we hold as standards as we develop our brand. Our franchise team will be based here in Schenectady. All training, including franchisee training, will come out of this store," said Abdallah.
"We are especially targeting the Capital Region for the next wave of growth and development of the franchise aspect of Hot Harry's," said Clay Slaughter, who holds a BS from Bucknell University and is no stranger to the fast food business. "I know the ups and downs of the business. Hot Harry's will work with and support our prospective owners. We are putting the extensive experience of the franchise team to work to invest in the success of the new owners."
Ed Kimball, who owns the Lee, MA Hot Harry's agrees with Slaughter's assessment of the support a franchisee can expect from Hot Harry's. "They created easy systems and recipes that the "Average Joe" can follow," said Kimball. "There is virtually no waste and there is not a slow moving item on the menu. Almost every piece of inventory has multiple uses within the menu. Hot Harry's Fresh Burritos, Inc. has been available for on-going support and has worked with me to cater to my unique market. I have been thoroughly satisfied with my return on my investment and want to grow with the company."
The company has launched a local advertising campaign to include newspaper and billboard presences in support of the push for new owners and new locations. "We are seeking market share where fresh burritos are not available," said Slaughter. "There's plenty of business to go around. We're not about to push a competitor out of business. Freshness and value are the characteristic that makes our product unique in the local fast food business. 80-90% of our food is made from scratch on premise each day. A person can have breakfast or lunch for close to $5. And, we are open from early in the morning until late at night. We respond to what the market wants."
Hot Harry's isn't the only business to have a corporate office on Upper Union Street. The busy and popular commercial/residential area is also the corporate headquarters of Northeastern Fine Jewelry, founded on Upper Union Street in 1980, which in addition to the Upper Union Street location has stores in Downtown Schenectady, Albany and Manchester Center, Vermont and Pai's Academy of Tai Kwon Do Academy, founded in Glenville in 1984, which has satellite campuses in Schenectady, Glenville, Troy, Clifton Park, Latham, Rensselaer, Saratoga and Albany counties.
"We love Upper Union Street with its great mix of business and residential properties, its close knit neighborhood appeal, and proximity to Union College." said Abdallah. "It's the sort of setting Hot Harry's thrives in."
"The Upper Union Street BID (Business Improvement District) is extremely pleased that Samir Abdallah has chosen to name Upper Union Street as their New York headquarters. Hot Harry's has proven to be a great addition to our district and excellent business neighbor. Congratulations on the growth of the franchise business and sincere best wishes to Samir and Clay Slaughter as they focus on further growth," said Guy Sementilli, chef/owner of Scotti's Italian Restaurant and Chair of the Upper Union St. BID, "It has a positive effect on all of us."
